Course Description

Bill To Nut  by Michael Ammar & Louis Falanga

When we first began working on the Money Miracles series, Louis thought we should include a Bill to Walnut effect because we thought that would be more novel than a Bill to Lemon or Orange would be. But after working out how we’d approach the effect, we weren’t able to find any walnuts during summer in Texas. Eventually and reluctantly, I decided to try it out with peanuts, which I was afraid might be seen as less ‘cool’ than a walnut.

To make a long story short, peanuts turned out to be the perfect solution. Walnuts had to be broken with a nutcracker, but peanuts can be broken at the tips of your fingers. Plus, the 2 halves of the peanut corresponded perfectly with 2 halves of a bill, and with a little practice, you could perfectly reseal a peanut using Elmer’s Wood Glue. Actually, I might have still have been using Super Glue to reseal the peanuts when this video was made, but since then Elmer’s Wood Glue has become the preferred method.

Finally, serendipity played another role in making this such a wonderful closing effect. Because of the method being used, you can prepare as many peanuts in advance as you’d like, because you don’t need to keep track of which peanut has which torn halves inside. This means the spectator can literally pick any peanut he wants from what seems to be a random bag full of peanuts. After having such a clearly free choice of peanut, people are truly blown away when that peanut is broken open to reveal the money inside!
