The 10,000 Grains of Salt

Several versions of E-Z Money have become very successful products in recent years, but this is the only authorized source of the original effect and handling which was created by Pat Page and developed by Fred Kaps.

One reason sales of this effect have been so brisk is because the original alchemist dream of creating wealth is the highest concept there is! Then, when you add the flashy visual nature of the transformation, well, you have ‘demo video gold.’

There has been some interesting tweaks to the gimmick in some of the new versions, but all of the versions work in exactly the same way as this - the original - E-Z Money. Why not do what some of the other have done? Which is to learn the original version, and then play around with ways to make it work even better. Who knows, you might end up with the next best selling effect in magic!

There was a time when I would carry a thumb tip around with me everywhere I went, but more recently my all-the-time prop has become the Little Hand. But when I did always carry my tip with me, it was primarily used to perform this effect. The 10,000 Grains of Salt routine is, in my opinion, the most commercial effect you can do with a thumb tip.

I know making a lit cigarette disappear is a wonderful thing, but it’s dirty and socially awkward to perform with cigarettes these days. Salt, on the other hand, is not only more practical, it’s potentially even more amazing to a laymen… because after all, you would need to manipulate 1,000’s and 1,000’s of grains. Which must be impossible, right?
